Aux Armèes le 11.2.45

Chers Parents
Nous avons eu hier la visite
du general de Gaulle qui a passè
dans la ville debout dans une
voiture militaire decouverte , encadrèe
de motocyclistes. Il etait accompagnè
du general de Lattre. Tout etait
pavoisé , comme seulement l'Alsace
sait pavoiser; des quantités de jeunes
filles étaient en costume . Quand
aux uniformes divers ils ne
manquaient pas evidemment !
Près d' une division a defilè avec
musiques. Je ne sais pas ce qui a
etè le plus acclamè ; du general ou
de l' armèe , d'ailleurs c'est la
même chose. Ici, du moment que
tu es en uniforme , tout le monde
te sourit.

Dear Parents
Yesterday we had the visit
of general de Gaulle who passed
in the city standing up in a
open-top military car , surrounded
by motorcyclists. He was accompanied
with general de Lattre. Everything was
dressed with flags , as only Alsace
knows how to dress with flags; many young
girls were in uniform . When
in various uniforms they
obviously hadn't lacked !
Almost a division paraded with
musics. I don't know which had
been the more acclaimed ; the general or
the army , even so it is the
same thing. Here, from the moment that
you are in uniform , everyone
smiles at you.


Ce qui me laisse beaucoup moins
souriant c'est les perspectives d'avenir
pour moi. On veut (et je crois que ça
y est) nous affecter à un centre de
triage pour le brancardage interieur.
Je me suis engagè pour conduire
une sanitaire et surtout en lignes
Je n'admet pas que l'on se paye
ma tête de cette manière
J'ai recu ce matin , par hasard
une ancienne conductrice CRF du
Havre qui avait rejoin le front
presque aussitot le siege terminè .
C.R.F. et larmèe cela fait 11 mois
qu'elle n'est pas rentrèe chez elle!
Je ne comprends plus
Si cela continue je passe dans
la biffe ; et pourtant comme secouriste
je peux rendre des services !

What leaves me much less
smiling are the future perspectives
for me. They want (a believe that that
is it) assign us to sorting
center for the interior stretcher transport.
I am assigned for leading
a sanitary and above all in lines
I don't allow that w are fooling
ourselves of this way
I received this morning , by chance
an old female CRF driver from Le
Havre who had joined the front
almost as soon that the siege was lifted .
C.R.F. and thearmy that makes 11 months
that she has not returned to her place!
I don't understand any more
If this continues I will go into
la biffe ; and even more as paramedic
I can provide services !
